A hospitality-first brand and website for an Eritrean restaurant in Washington, DC — food-forward photography, a shared-table menu system, and a calm events calendar for live music and coffee ceremonies.
Food for the hours that do not need a plan
An editorial hero pairs a bold display headline with a warm handwritten counter-line, then anchors it with founder facts — year, ownership, city — so first-time visitors feel the room before they scroll.
Made to be shared
A three-tile ‘‘The Table’’ layout lets platters, injera and cocktails carry the story instead of body copy. Numbered captions turn the grid into a visual menu spotlight without ever feeling like a stock food page.
Every dish, a feature
Item pages treat a single plate — Zilzil Tibsi, shiro, tsebhi — like a magazine feature: Tigrinya name in native script, spice level, a short tasting note, and a ‘‘pairs well with’’ line. Cuisine that's new to the guest arrives with context, not intimidation.
What's happening at 91
A dark events board with oversized date numerals frames live music, krar nights and coffee ceremonies. Regulars can scan the week in one glance; newcomers get a clear invitation into the culture, not just the menu.
The challenge
Introduce Eritrean cuisine to a broader DC audience without flattening the culture behind it — while giving regulars a clear place to see what's happening this week.
Our approach
Editorial hero over a warm sand palette, story-led sections that lean on food photography, an item-detail page that treats each dish like a feature, and a dark events board for live music and community gatherings.
